Silicon Labs Launches Integrated Development Environment Supporting MCU and Wireless Application Design

China, Beijing - March 6, 2015 - Silicon Labs, a leading provider of microcontrollers, wireless connectivity, analog and sensor solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) sector, today announced the launch of Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB) A new generation of Simplicity StudioTM, the industry's first integrated MCU/wireless development environment that supports simultaneous MCU and RF design for a wide range of IoT applications. The newly released software continues the best features of the original Simplicity Studio platform and adds support for Silicon Labs' new 8-bit EFM8 MCU family, EZR32 sub-GHz wireless MCU, and EM35xx Ember ZigBee® wireless SoC in an 802.15.4 mesh network. The most widely used 2.4GHz connectivity solution in the market.

Simplicity Studio simplifies the design process for MCUs and wireless developers developing IoT applications by providing one-click access to the resources required in the unified software development environment from conception to final prototyping. Simplicity Studio includes an Eclipse-based integrated development environment (IDE), graphical configuration tools, energy analysis and optimization tools, network analysis tools, demo code, software samples, documentation, technical support, and community forums. All of these integration features enable IoT developers to perform embedded developments simply and efficiently.

Silicon Labs Launches Integrated Development Environment Supporting MCU and Wireless Application Design

Simplicity Studio provides built-in intelligence to automatically detect connected 8/32-bit MCUs or wireless ICs, graphically configure chip functions, and display supported configuration options to help developers get operational in minutes Project Design. Simplicity Studio is a contextually aware development environment that provides developers with project-related product information. Integrated real-time energy and network packet analysis tools also help developers create reliable networks and energy-efficient wireless nodes while optimizing energy consumption for optimal battery life and capacity choices.

Simultaneous MCU and wireless design in the same development environment can help customers avoid time and effort during the embedded design process, saving customers time and effort. Embedded developers can use the integrated Simplicity Studio IDE for rapid application development for target applications based on EZR32 wireless MCUs, Ember ZigBee wireless SoCs and 8/32-bit MCUs. The IDE supports enhanced features such as a fully integrated wireless embedded software architecture, intelligent code completion, and compatibility with other value-added plug-ins from the Eclipse ecosystem.

Silicon Labs also offers a free Keil® PK51 build tool for MCU development based on the 8-bit 8051 core. The GNU Compiler CollecTIon (GCC) build tool is available for EFM32 Gecko MCU designs, while the EZR32 design uses the IAR EWARM compiler with Silicon Labs' wireless protocol stack. Developers with specific IDE preferences can launch Keil μVision or IAR Embedded Workbench by configuring the "Preferred IDE" in Simplicity Studio.

Daniel Cooley, vice president and general manager of MCU and wireless products at Silicon Labs, said, "Embedded development in the IoT era has become more and more difficult, especially when developing ultra-low-power, wireless-enabled connected devices. Incoherent The toolchain also increases the training and management costs of embedded developers, especially for IoT projects that require devices such as MCUs, wireless and sensors. Our latest version of Simplicity Studio provides MCUs and wireless devices for IoT developers in the same environment. Collaborative development greatly simplifies the entire design process."
