It is reported that Matsushita Electric Co., Ltd. has decided to withdraw its OLED business due to high production costs and difficulties in profitability.
It is understood that Matsushita plans to sell this business to Japan Display Co., and both parties are expected to reach an agreement in June this year. Founded in April 2012, Japan Display Corporation is the world's largest manufacturer of tablet computers and smartphones LCD displays. Matsushita plans to focus on LCD flat panel products produced at the Himeji City Plant in Hyogo Prefecture to increase the proportion of liquid crystal display products and ensure profitability.
Panasonic and Sony ended cooperation in OLED development at the end of 2013. Earlier this year, Sony also announced its abandonment of the OLED business.
