At present, Mitsubishi Chemical uses the Mizushima Plant and the Tsukuba Plant to produce GaN substrates. The diameter of the products is 2 inches, and the monthly production capacity is 1,000 pieces and hundreds of pieces.
In order to achieve a stable profit level, it is necessary to expand the product size to 4-6 inches. Therefore, Mitsubishi Chemical plans to start production of a 4-inch diameter GaN substrate by adjusting the existing equipment of the Mizushima Plant. With a monthly capacity of 200-300 pieces, it plans to start production of 6-inch GaN substrates with new production equipment or additional plant facilities, and expand the production capacity of GaN substrates to 2-3 times.
Compared with LED lighting using sapphire substrates, Mitsubishi Chemical's GaN substrates have high output, stable illumination, etc., and the number of LEDs required for lighting products can be reduced to a fraction of a fraction, and power consumption can be reduced by 50- 70%, at the same time, can extend the life of lighting products, so orders from building lighting or headlights for vehicles have increased rapidly.
