According to Forbes magazine, Microsoft is developing a smart watch that will measure the user's heart rate and work with Apple's iPhone and Android and Windows Phone devices.
According to reports, Microsoft plans to equip this smart watch with a large number of sensors. But in addition to monitoring heart rate, Forbes does not mention what features this product will have. Microsoft's Kinect division engineer will be responsible for the development of the heart rate monitor for this smart watch, which will continuously track the user's heart rate for 24 hours.
Unlike Samsung's new smart watch Gear Fit, Microsoft's product will continuously measure heart rate without requiring users to trigger specific functions. Microsoft is working on a software platform for this wearable smart device that focuses on displaying health information collected by sensors.
This wrist-worn device will be equipped with a full-color touch screen that is said to be the size of a piece of chewing gum. The display will be on the inside of the wearer's wrist to ensure the privacy of the notifications, similar to the second display of the Nabu Fitness Tracker announced by Razer at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January this year.
Microsoft decided to allow its smartwatches to be compatible with iOS and Android systems, in line with the company's new CEO Satya Nadella's development strategy to expand into other platforms. In April of this year, Nadella released a new version of the Microsoft Office suite, designed to be used on the iPad.
According to the latest report from Forbes, Microsoft’s plan seems to be to develop a wearable smart device that solves one of the most criticized problems of smart watches so far: most smart watches offer less than enough functionality. Many, and many of these features overlap with smartphones, making most consumers reluctant to spend $200 to $300 to buy this product. However, by doubling the emphasis on health features (such as the ability to continuously monitor heart rate), Microsoft smart watches may make consumers feel refreshed.
It's unclear when Microsoft will release the smartwatch, but if the Forbes report is accurate enough, the release time may be this summer.
