Google acquires Foxconn patent: virtual reality technology

It is reported that it is very rare for an American technology company to purchase intellectual property rights from an Asian foundry. At present, the two parties have not released the financial information of the transaction.

Foxconn said that these patents are related to head-mounted display devices. Through these patented technologies, virtual images can be superimposed on real vision. These patents are commonly used in aviation and tactical / ground display, engineering and scientific design applications, games, video equipment, training and simulation tools.

Foxconn has established a factory in California to produce Google smart glasses products. However, Foxconn is also a major supplier of accessories for other consumer electronics brands, including Apple. Although Apple has not announced the launch of wearable technology products, other technology companies have already walked ahead of Apple.

Some industry observers said that the rapid rise of wearable technology may lead to a large number of patent litigation in the future, which is very similar to the many patent litigation cases in the smartphone market in recent years.

Google Glass is currently undergoing small-scale testing and is expected to be available next year. As for how Google will use the newly acquired patent, it is still unclear.
