On the afternoon of May 24, in the Fengxian Park in Suning Logistics, a unmanned heavy-duty truck bearing the Suning Tesco logo and carrying containers completed the first road test in the park. This is the first exploration of domestic e-commerce companies in the field of large unmanned vehicles.
In Suning, this type of unmanned heavy-duty truck is called "Xinglong No.1". From May 19 to 20, "Xinglong No. 1" has completed a round of high-speed scene test at the Yancheng Automobile Test Site. This is the second round of testing.
The interface journalist experienced the automatic driving of "Xinglong No.1" on the spot. After the staff set the driving route, the unmanned heavy truck departed from the delivery platform and traveled at a steady speed; when turning, the front of the car completed a natural semicircle, and the head orientation was adjusted at a constant speed, and the speed was accelerated forward. When the staff walked by, the truck automatically recognized and stopped, waiting for no obstacles on the route to continue.
Yan Xuefeng, deputy dean of the Suning Logistics Research Institute, said that heavy trucks usually carry out the business of transshipment and transfer in the logistics chain. Most of the application scenarios are in the expressway, and the working conditions are simpler than the general passenger cars. From the current development of driverless technology, unmanned vehicles will have better application prospects in logistics scenarios. Daimler, Tesla and many other car giants are deploying unmanned trucks.
For long-distance freight drivers, heavy-duty truck operation is relatively complicated and laborious, and maintains a monotonous posture in long-distance transportation, and is also prone to fatigue, resulting in an accident. Suning said that the development of unmanned heavy-duty truck technology is also a more comfortable working environment for tens of thousands of trunk drivers within the company.
From the point of view of logistics cost, traditional long-distance cargo trucks require two trunk drivers. Suning's unmanned heavy truck requires only one driver to observe special circumstances. The rest of the driving can be completed by the unmanned heavy truck and choose the most fuel-efficient one. Old driver" mode. Compared to the traditional model, such an unmanned heavy truck saves about 60% of the manpower.
Suning's driving mode for unmanned heavy trucks is the “warehouse to warehouse†driving route, so that it can collect routes in advance and select highways with better road conditions, and the safety level is higher.
Zhijia Technology provides technical support for Suning Unmanned Heavy Truck. Zhiqiang’s researcher Fu Qiang told the interface journalist that compared with ordinary trucks, Suning’s unmanned heavy-duty trucks had five top cameras, a millimeter-wave radar and two laser radars in the middle and the center. The camera, GPS positioning, lidar and millimeter radar technology simultaneously act on the truck's positioning system, which can detect real-time orientation, front obstacles and reconstruct 3D scenes with an accuracy of centimeter.
Founded in Silicon Valley, USA, Zhijia Technology is a technological innovation enterprise with artificial intelligence as its engine and intelligent driving as its core, and Suning is their primary customer in China. Fu Qiang said that the cost of an unmanned control system for such a heavy-duty truck is about 10,000 US dollars. As long as the truck meets the requirements of electronically controlled steering, manual integration, and electronic brake stabilization procedures, it can carry their driverless system. .
Suning frequently works in the field of unmanned vehicles. Previously, the interface news had reported that Suning Tesco had placed the "Wolong No. 1" unmanned delivery vehicle in some communities in Nanjing, replacing the last one-meter deliveryman. After just one month, the unmanned heavy truck was tested on the analog highway.
However, the relevant person on the road test site analyzed that even if the technology is mature, there is still a long way to go before the “Dragon 1†can be put into use. The biggest barrier is the policy.
At present, China's current regulations do not allow unmanned driving on the road. However, Yan Xuefeng believes that the technological and Internetization of logistics is a major trend in the future. He believes that no heavy trucks can improve the working environment of drivers and maximize the use of resources.
