London will install iPad to control smart street lights in the future

According to the US technology blog, London plans to upgrade the streetlight system in Westminster for the next four years, with a new deployment of 14,000 “smart street lights” that can be controlled through iPad applications.
London decided to invest £3.25 million to replace 14,000 old lamps with new energy-saving lamps. Most interestingly, these lights are “smart street lights” that can be used by the iPad app to alert workers which lights need to be repaired or replaced. In addition, technicians can control the input power of each lamp with the application to further improve energy efficiency.
London's move is the first in the UK, and the City Council said that due to the lower operating costs of the new smart lights, their initial investment will recover costs within seven years. Starting in 2015, the new smart lights will save taxpayers an annual energy bill of £420,000.
With such energy-saving digital support, there may be more modern cities using similar smart light systems in the future.
