Kateeva officially launches OLED TV inkjet printing R&D/production system

OLED inkjet developer Kateeva has made some updates to its OLED inkjet printing technology. First, the company officially launched inkjet devices that are suitable for the deposition of large-area RGB OLED emitters. Kateeva named its new production line YIELDJet Explore. These systems are mainly for R&D and pilot production lines.

Kateeva offers two systems for the early development and exploration of small panels (up to 200mm baseboard), and Explore Pro for up to 55 inches of production (this is still a development/test system). Kateeva announced that it has shipped four Explore systems in 2017 and expects to have another three systems by the second quarter of 2018.

Kateeva didn't disclose it, but according to Digitimes, BOE is one of the company's customers. Other reports also pointed out that LG Display is also testing Kateeva's system. In early 2017, Kateeva announced that it will double its manufacturing area to meet the needs of inkjet systems.

In September 2016, the company announced its leading position in the OLED film packaging (TFE) market and obtained most of the TFE orders. Kateeva's system is used to deposit organic TFE layers, while inorganic materials are typically deposited using PeCVD or ALD systems.

In addition, Kateeva also announced that it has more than 600 patents covering inkjet devices and related processes for manufacturing OLEDs and other displays. Including patents issued in the United States, China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, China.

Kateeva did not disclose the seller of the patent, but disclosed that it also received the license of the remaining OLED and FPD manufacturing related patents from the seller.

Insiders pointed out that these new developments of Kateeva are exciting, but it needs to be pointed out that OLED ink jet printing takes longer than expected. The vice president of Kateeva Korea in 2016 stated that it is expected that Samsung Display will start using OLED technology to produce OLED TVs by 2018. However, it seems that by 2018, Kateeva will still only be able to provide pilot equipment.

Kateeva raised $88 million in 2016, setting a precedent for the OLED inkjet market.
