High-efficiency lighting OLED components have luminous efficiency close to LED

Toshiba has developed OLED devices for lighting with luminous efficiency up to 91lm / W. As a large-area lighting OLED element with a size of 8 cm & times; 7 cm, a very high luminous efficiency is achieved.

The luminous efficiency of the OLED element exhibited by Toshiba at the exhibition in March 2012 was 60lm / W. On this basis, Toshiba has adopted various improvements, such as (1) changing the material of the electron transport layer, (2) adding metal auxiliary wiring to ITO as a transparent electrode, and (3) removing the material of the back electrode (cathode) The aluminum (Al) used is changed to other materials with high reflectivity, which greatly improves the luminous efficiency.

With the help of (1) and (2), the luminous efficiency was increased to 78.6lm / W at the initial brightness of 1000cd / m2. Moreover, the operating voltage is greatly reduced to 3.14V from the original 3.62V. In addition, by virtue of (3), the luminous efficiency is further improved to 91lm / W under the condition of an initial brightness of 1000cd / m2.

Great room for performance improvement

In fact, the methods in (1) to (3) are not new technologies. However, the biggest feature of Toshiba is that it does not use the latest "popular technology", but achieves large-area, high-efficiency and low-voltage operation with simple element structure and standard light-emitting materials.

In order to obtain high luminous efficiency, other companies mostly use technology to improve light extraction efficiency on the surface of the device. For example, adding a high refractive index layer near the transparent electrode, and forming a unique light extraction layer on the surface of the device.

Toshiba unveiled the device for the first time at the 2012 SID InternaTIonal Symposium, Seminar & ExhibiTIon, which was held at the June 2012 international conference. At that time, "competitive technicians also encouraged that such a simple device can obtain such a high luminous efficiency, which means that OLED devices still have sufficient room to improve luminous performance. In the future, using the latest new technology may be able to Bring the luminous efficiency close to the level of LED "(Toshiba Research and Development Center Head of Display Basic Technology Laboratory Yugong Gong).
