Fairchild's PWM controller realizes ultra-low standby power consumption of charger

Mobile phone chargers are usually plugged into the outlet and are not performing charging most of the time. However, they still consume power, thus wasting energy and user money. How to reduce the standby power consumption of these devices, thereby saving power, meeting government regulations, and saving money for users, is clearly a problem that design engineers must face.

The FAN302HL highly integrated PWM controller features several features that enhance the performance of a general-purpose flyback converter, such as the integrated 500V JFET, which cuts off the current path and reduces startup losses when the device is turned on. Its patented constant current control topology simplifies circuit design and eliminates the need for a secondary-side constant current feedback circuit, providing important advantages for battery charger applications.

The FAN302HL also features several protection features, including cycle-by-cycle current limiting, to ensure a fixed peak current limit level, even in the event of a short circuit. In addition, the device clamps the gate output voltage to a 15V level to protect the power MOSFET from damage caused by excessive gate-to-source voltage.

The FAN302HL does not require an external secondary overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit. If either the OVP function of the VS pin or the internal overtemperature protection function is triggered, the device will enter the lock mode until the AC power is turned off, thus saving Remove the secondary side OVP component while enhancing VO protection (<6V).
