On the first day of GDC, Leo Olebe, Director of Facebook's global game cooperation department, was interviewed on Facebook's next VR business development and Super Games platform Instant Games.
Q: Can you tell us about yourself and talk about what this GDC Conference has brought to Facebook?
A: Hello, I'm Leo Olebe, director of Facebook's global game cooperation department. The annual GDC Conference is a great opportunity for us to communicate with game developers all over the world. Our goal is simple: it can help them succeed. This year we will be presenting a series of product demonstrations on the Facebook platform (such as Instant Games and FB live broadcasts) and conducting in-depth research on our 2016 project Gameroom.
Q: In the past few weeks, Facebook has started hiring VR experts. What do you expect from the VR game market in the next few years?
A: I think the VR game market will continue to grow in 2017. More and more people around the world are beginning to fall in love with the immersive experience brought by VR. We are also looking forward to helping more people discover, understand and love. This incredible experience.
Q: Can you tell us about the growth of Instant Games, the super gaming platform, and how can developers succeed in VR?
A: Instant Games has a good start. Although I can't share specific numbers with you, I can tell you that users really like to play various types of games directly on News Feed and Messenger, because without downloading any APP, they look Enjoy it. They can easily challenge their friends or share their achievements. Of course, this is just the beginning. We are really excited about the infinite potential of Instant Games.
Q: What role do you think Facebook will play in the development of the e-sports industry?
A: Facebook as a platform can help players achieve engagement. More and more games, teams, and influential people are joining our platform every day. Our mission is to help people discover, join and share their favorite games with the people they care about. Of course, it also includes those passionate gaming audiences.
