February 10th news: Veeco has announced the introduction of the TurboDisc ® MaxBrightTM gallium nitride (GaN) organometallic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) multi-reactor system for the production of high-brightness diodes (HB LEDs).
MaxBright has accepted a leading LED manufacturer and Wico currently has MaxBright systems in Taiwan and other top Chinese manufacturers in Korea.
TurboDisc MaxBright Gallium Oxide Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition Multireactor System
MaxBright leverages Veeco's market-leading unified FlowFlange® cluster architecture automation technology and expertise in a modular two or four reactor by combining multiple, new, high-throughput metal organic chemical vapor deposition reactors. The MaxBright reactor, based on production validation of the K465i, features both expanded wafer throughput and advanced, proprietary, closed loop, thermal control technology. These reactors achieve more than 25% K465i throughput exceeding the standard, while expanding the proof of performance advantages - uniformity, repeatability and material quality. The MaxBright MOCVD system delivers industry leading wafer throughput up to 216 x 2", 56 x 4", 24 x 6" or 12 x 8" wafers. In addition, the seamless transfer of the K465i formulation MaxBright enables customers to achieve the start of rapid production.
According to Dr. William J. Miller, executive vice president of Veeco's compound semiconductor business, "MaxBright's value proposition is clear: it is the highest productivity MOCVD system for manufacturing high brightness LEDs on the market. The architecture supports single or multi-cavity layers Growth Capability, High Flexibility in Improving LED Structure Processes MaxBright's compact architecture also allows a stand-alone metal organic chemical vapor deposition system with a footprint gain of up to 2.5 times. Overall, MaxBright offers a 500% value-added, compact package. The K465i is flexible."
John R. Piller, Veeco's CEO added: "Welcom has greatly accelerated our investment in metal-organic chemical vapor deposition technology and new product development programs to further reduce LED manufacturing costs. We are pleased to introduce this Part of our new, efficient capabilities and capital productivity system process, our multi-generational roadmap for MOCVD growth. MaxBright will enable the industry to accelerate the transition to LED lighting. In 2010, the K465i became the market leading MOCVD system. Now, MaxBright is further expanding Veeco's product leadership, the most productive and lowest cost of ownership in the metal organic chemical vapor deposition market."
