The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) announced on the 21st an outline of related activities of the Tokyo Motor Show to be held this fall. At present in Japan, people's attention to the car has declined, and auto shows in other regions have seized the limelight at the local auto show. This time the Japan Automobile Industry Association will flexibly use VR (virtual reality) technology for exhibitions and launch many new event programs to revive the popularity of the Tokyo Motor Show.
The Tokyo Motor Show will be held at TOKYO BIG SIGHT in the Koto Ward district of Tokyo from October 27th to November 5th. What is most expected at this auto show is that people can enjoy the image of future mobile services in the venue and use VR devices to experience the “Connected Car†world that provides services through the Internet.
The number of visitors to the Tokyo Motor Show peaked in 1991, when more than 2 million people entered the site. The number of visitors to the last Tokyo Auto Show held in 2015 was about 800,000. In addition to Japanese domestic brands, 26 brands from 14 companies from overseas participated in the last exhibition. The number of exhibitors from overseas companies has further decreased. There will be 19 brands from 13 overseas companies participating in this auto show. The Fiat Chrysler Auto Group (FCA), which participated in the previous edition, will be absent from the exhibition. In addition, three large US car companies will also be absent. IT companies hold the key to autonomous driving technology, and autopilot technology will be the main battlefield for future auto industry competition. However, some major IT companies will also miss the auto show.
Nishikawa, president of the Japan Automobile Industry Association, said: "We are not seeking a large scale, but we hope to enhance its presence through the quality of the exhibition."
