Qualcomm: From 2G to 5G, one chip is all set

According to Forbes website report, last week, Qualcomm and Intel respectively released their respective major news on the 5G new air support mode, 5G cooperation and new product features. The news released before the 2017 Mobile World Congress (MWC) indicates that we will see a brand new show at this conference. However, Qualcomm seems to have left its trump card to the end.

In order to compete for 5G leadership, Qualcomm and Intel have released a lot of news about 5G, from 5G prototypes to modems, from RF to 5G. Regarding 5G modems, Qualcomm and Intel also took the lead in releasing modem products. Huawei and Samsung Electronics seem to have made some noises. Samsung has just released the first new Exynos 8895 system-on-chip with a Gigabit LTE modem, but it is not a 5G chip and is almost a year behind Qualcomm's X16 Gigabit LTE modem. Perhaps Samsung will release a 5G modem at the end of this year or early next year. Otherwise, in terms of 5G modems, we will only see the two companies playing against each other during this time.

Xiaolong X50 series can now support 5G, 4G, 3G, and even 2G network

Tonight, Qualcomm announced the expansion of its X50 5G modem series, the world's first 5G modem announced at the 4G/5G Summit in October last year. The X50 design that was released at that time supported Verizon's new pre-Gigabit standard in South Korea, which is expected to be the standard before the 5G network was launched in 2020. Qualcomm is working with other vendors and hopes to launch related networks by 2020 and continue to strengthen cooperation in the future. The new Qualcomm X50 series of modems will support 3GPP's official 5G new air interface standards in millimeter-wave (mmWave) and below 6 GHz bands, while supporting Gigabit 4G LTE, 3G, and even 2G networks. In addition, all these modems support independent and non-independent operation. This feature involves control signaling and communication between the modem and the core network. This is another important news that Qualcomm will release on the MWC.

These new multimode 2G/3G/4G/5G (yes, all network) modems can support all cellular technologies on one chip, and some competitors may take many years to achieve this. This means that Qualcomm's new X50 5G modem will be a truly global 4G/5G modem, even in areas that currently have no 4G LTE coverage. Not only that, these new modems also allow the simultaneous connection of 4G and 5G networks. Enterprises will be able to support Gigabit LTE and 5G network connectivity by deploying a single modem, which is extremely important for any mobile solution. The new generation of X50 multimode 5G modem will be used in the first large-scale 5G new air interface test and commercial network launched in 2019. Imagine we can now have smart phones that support 5G networks launched in 2019. I want to be the first lucky person.

Join 22 companies to speed up deployment of 5G new air interface

After the news was released, Qualcomm and other 21 companies announced that they would announce a work plan proposal for the first phase of the 5G new air interface specification at the next 3GPP conference to expedite the development of the new 3GPP 5G air interface standard. After the MWC, the meeting will soon be held in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The 22 companies supporting this accelerated proposal include: AT&T, Japan Telecom, SK Telecom, Vodafone, Ericsson, Qualcomm, British Telecom, Telstra, Korea Telecom, Intel, LG Uplus Telecom, Japanese telecom operator KDDI, LG Electronics , Telia Corporation, Swiss Telecom, Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM, Telecom Italia Mobile), UAE Telecommunication Group, Huawei, US Carriers Sprint, Vivo, ZTE and Deutsche Telekom.

The proposal (now published on the 3GPP website) proposes a compromise solution that uses both non-independent and independent control signaling as part of the initial 3GPP Release 15 5G standard specification. The non-independent 5G new air interface will use the existing 4G LTE wireless network and core network as the basis for network coverage, thus supporting the start of large-scale experiments and deployment in 2019. The reason for choosing this point in time to issue this proposal is that without this change, it is impossible to develop any terminal that is based on the 5G new air interface standard and can operate on the 5G new air interface network at least until 2020. .

The implication of this announcement is that it will help the 5G new air market to enter the market more quickly, while allowing operators to accelerate the initial investment. This milestone will allow more operators to transition to 5G new airspace without investing huge amounts of money. Afterwards, in order to realize all the functions of 5G, operators still need to invest, but the experiment and initial deployment process will be arranged very reasonable. Interestingly, Intel is also supporting 21 companies that have accelerated the standardization process of 5G new airspace through this non-independent proposal, but well-known wireless vendors such as Nokia, Verizon Communications and Samsung Electronics are not among them.

Conclusion

Qualcomm seems to once again challenge the competition, and this time, it uses its own position in the field of modem integration technology as a weapon. Qualcomm’s 5G process is so fast that I have not yet understood the complexity of integrating LTE modems and 5G modems, not to mention the overall 5G development is still in its early stages. Simultaneous 4G LTE and 5G connectivity in modems that support the 5G new air interface standard are important for all 5G mobile applications. In addition, this is also beneficial in power-constrained scenarios because the cost of running both 4G and 5G modems at the same time is too high from the perspective of battery life. According to my estimation, many of the first 5G new air interface terminals equipped with batteries are likely to adopt a new Qualcomm X50 multimode 5G modem.

Can not help but feel empathy, Qualcomm's previous confidential work done so well!

Magnetic Usb Cable

Magnetic USB Cable refers to the magnet male and female to suction mode to connect the charging effect of the charging cable. Rely on the magnet magnetic attraction, traditional cable connector is separated from the cable body, both through magnetic in automatic adsorption within a certain distance, so called magnetic suction cable magnetic suction cable, magnetic suction cable, magnetic suction charging cable, etc.so that we can realize single hand plug cable, and in the process of actual use, the magnetic suction charging cable is safer than ordinary USB Cable.

Interface widely applicable to mainstream models.Thin small size for wide, differs from the traditional life of the common data interface,a new type of magnetic suction cable charging interface on the size of the thin body, even mobile phones with a set of use, magnetic suction cable also apply to the charging 90% of cell phone sets, don't need to pick a set can be used directly, so it is suitable for use in the increasingly miniaturization of electronic equipment, Can withstand more than 50,000 times of repeated insertion and removal. Fast transmission speed, perfectly compatible with mobile phone data transmission.

It is easy to use,can be single-hand operation, regardless of positive and negative, random insertion, the error rate is zero, even if the 3-year-old children can not be inserted wrong, very suitable for driving, sleeping and other life scenarios. The appearance of magnetic charging cable has impacted the market of Usb C Cable, because magnetic charging cable is much better than ordinary data cable, bringing too much convenience to life. The feeling of user experience has also risen, and more people begin to enjoy the sense of convenience brought by magnetic charging cable to life.
