1. Delete Windows Update Cache File
Because the update fails, leaving the cache file to be updated is not automatically deleted by the system. This may cause the next update to fail. To do this, we can first delete the update cache file, if the problem is caused by the aspects, then clear the cache, the problem can be solved.
Press the Windows+X key combination and select "Command Prompt (Administrator)" in the pop-up shortcut menu.

Then enter the "CD %windir%\SoftwareDistribution" command and press Enter. This will enter the SoftwareDistribution folder.
Open the "X:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" folder and delete all files in the Download and DataStore folders.
In the command prompt window, enter the command "net start wuauserv" again and press Enter. This will remind the service to restart.
After completing the above series of operations, check the update system again in the system Windows Update window.
2. Open various services such as BITS and Update
If the above update still fails, follow the steps below to confirm whether the BITS, Windows Update, Windows Installer, Software Protection, and other service settings are turned on. If not, turn it on.
Press the Win+R key combination and enter the command "services.msc". Double-click to open the "Background Intelligent Transfer Services" service.
Click on the "General" tab, select "Automatic" or "Manual" option for "Startup type", then click on the "Enable" button under "Service status".
Next, the same method is used to enable services such as Cryptographic Services, Software Protection, Windows Installer, and Windows Update.
3. Repair Windows Update
Failure of the Windows Update function can also cause the above update problem. If none of the above steps can be resolved, you can try to repair Windows Update to solve the problem of unable to install the Windows update.
Press Win + X + A key combination to quickly open the "Command Prompt (Administrator)" window, and then enter the following command and enter to run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
Wait for the scan to progress to 100% (usually this process takes minutes or even longer). If the test is normal, the message "The component storage is not detected to be damaged. The operation is completed successfully."
Next, enter the following command and enter to execute:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Also wait for the progress to 100%. If problems are encountered midway, the repair is automatically performed and a "Restore operation has been successfully completed. Repaired component storage is damaged. Operation completed successfully."
After completing the above fix, close the Command Prompt window. Then go to "Update and Security → Windows Update" in the Windows Settings window and rerun Windows Update.
