Andy Yu, vice president of Displaybank, pointed out that TFT-LCD, which is currently used as a mainstream display, has a low light transmittance (about 6%) due to the use of multilayer optical films and TFT light-emitting traces, and LCDs used for backlighting are not self-illuminating. These factors make LCDs have limitations and room for improvement when transitioning to next-generation displays. The organic self-emissive layer of the OLED display is transparent, the thickness of the cathode layer can be made thinner, and the electrodes on both sides can be made transparent to realize a transparent display. As technology continues to develop, LCDs and OLEDs will continue to improve technological barriers, and DisplayBank expects these display technologies to strengthen its position in transparent displays.

Displaybank expects that transparent displays will be available for the first time in 2012.
