Sharp's layoffs doubled to 10,000 people will restart negotiations with Hon Hai

According to the Nikkei News on the 18th, although Sharp announced the largest layoff plan in the company's history on August 2, it will abolish 5,000 employees, but in order to thoroughly streamline measures to get rid of loss of health and ensure funding, Sharp plans The number of layoffs has doubled to 10,000, accounting for about 20% of Sharp's overall staff (about 57,000).

The report pointed out that in order to support Sharp's fund scheduling, Sharp's two major banks, Mizuho Corporate Bank and Mitsubishi Tokyo UFJ Bank, will also provide 60 billion yen in financing for Sharp (the combined value of the two banks). However, the conditions for banks to provide financial assistance are “Hon Hai’s shareholding” and “additional streamlining measures”. Therefore, Sharp will propose an additional "Business Reconstruction Countermeasures" in September, and will resume negotiations with Hon Hai this week (the week of August 20-26).

According to the Nikkei News report on the 17th, Hon Hai has proposed to Sharp to double the shareholding ratio from 9.9% to 20%, and the purchase price per share will be cut from the original 550 yen. Sharp's current share price is expected to be around 200 yen. The report pointed out that as Hon Hai's shareholding in Sharp doubled, Hon Hai may also request Sharp to send a director.

In addition, the Japanese media Sankei News reported on the 18th that Sharp plans to sell the TV assembly plant in Nanjing and Mexico, China, to Hon Hai, and plans to manufacture 0.6% of Olympus and 9.8% of lithium-ion batteries. The company's shareholding in "ELIIY POWER (a joint venture with Daiwa Housing Industries)" was sold, and approximately 9% of Pioneer's equity held by Sharp does not exclude the sale.

Not only that, Sharp plans to spin off the “Kameyama Plant” to become an independent company, and will follow the operation model of the 10th generation panel factory in the country, and invite other companies to jointly operate the Guishan Plant. The Kameyama Plant produces small and medium-sized panels for smart phones and tablets, and is currently the source of panels for Apple's smartphones. In addition to the spin-off of the Kameyama Plant, the company plans to include the information processing business, the electronic components business such as LED lighting, and the air-conditioning equipment business.
